General information on the marking on the eyepieces:

1 = Working distance is 350mm (e.g. SV1, ST1, EX1, etc.)

2 = Working distance is 400mm (e.g. SV2, ST2, EX2, etc.)

3 = Working distance is 450mm (e.g. SV3, ST3, EX3, etc.)

ST = 2.5x magnification

SV = 2.7x magnification

EX = 3.0x magnification

HD = 3.5x magnification

Working distance:

The working distance (inaccurately and simply said the focal length of the eyepiece, e.g. 400mm) is defined by the distance of the eye (pupil) through the eyepiece to the object under observation. Usually this is the maximum working distance. The working distance is reduced by the following factors:

  • Depth of field of the eyepiece
  • Accommodation (focusing) of the eyes
  • Myopia, which is not corrected
